Sept 5 - Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Sunday denied they and Islamist militiamen had besieged opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi's home, but urged that the cleric and "seditionists" like him be tried.
The Guards, in a statement carried by ILNA news agency, said that the siege on Karroubi's home earlier this week was instigated by "rogue elements" who were not linked to the force or to the Basij militia.
Sept 4 - A vocal female human rights activist and journalist went on trial in Iran Saturday on charges including "warring against God," which is punishable by death, her lawyer was reported as saying.
Shiva Nazar-Ahari, 26, went on trial "on charges of Moharebeh (warring against God), conspiring and gathering to commit a crime, propaganda against the regime and harming public order," lawyer Mohammad Sharif told ILNA news agency.
Sept 3 - Islamist militiamen, some carrying guns, attacked the home of Iranian opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi late on Thursday for a second night in a row and wounded his chief bodyguard, his website reported.
"Armed Basijis attacked Mr Karoubi's house and got inside the building after smashing down the door. The guards were obliged to fire in the air," the sahamnews.org website said on Friday.
Aug 31 - Iran will still need two more weeks to fully load the fuel in its Russian-built first nuclear power plant, a process which began 10 days ago, atomic chief Ali Akbar Salehi has said.
On August 21 Iran began loading the fuel roads, also supplied by Russia, into the nuclear power plant located in the southern port city of Bushehr.
The entire loading of the 163 fuel rods was to be complete by September 5, but late on Monday state news agency IRNA quoted Salehi as saying that it will take another two weeks to shift the rods into the plant.
"From now on it will take 10 to 15 days for the 163 fuel rods to be moved into the main building of the Bushehr nuclear power plant," Salehi said.
Salehi blamed the delay on Bushehr's "severe hot weather" and said that the rods were being moved during night time.
The Bushehr plant's actual commissioning is expected in October or November when the electricity it generates is connected to the national grid./-
Aug 30 - Iran says it has set a 2020 target date to build its first experimental nuclear fusion reactor, a feat that has yet to be achieved by any nation.
Iran said in July that its nuclear agency began research on the experimental reactor.

The Iranian judiciary had earlier this month announced the suspension of three high-ranking officials, paving the way for their trial over the deaths in Kahrizak jail last summer, but did not name them.
Aug 28 - The rhetoric used by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has endangered the security of Iran, opposition websites Saturday quoted opposition leader Mir-Hossein Moussavi as saying.
"The (president's) adventurous policies in recent years as well as exaggerated and provoking rhetoric have endangered the security in Iran," Moussavi and leader of the country's Green Movement said in a meeting with war veterans of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
Aug 28 - Iranian state TV is reporting that three people died in the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that shook the country's remote northeast overnight. Forty others were injured.
The quake struck at 11:53 p.m. local time (1923GMT) on Saturday in Semnan province.
The report says two children and a woman died and that the toll was not higher because the area is sparsely populated. Fifteen homes were damaged.
The U.S. Geological Survey put the quake's strength at magnitude 5.7.-
Aug. 27 - A magnitude-5.9 earthquake on the Richter scale hit the city of Damghan in Iran's northern Semnan province at 11:53 p.m. (1923 GMT) Friday night, according to the Iranian Seismological Center's website.
Three people were injured as of now, state TV reported.
The earthquake, at a depth of only 7 km, was 35.5 degrees North Latitude and 54.5 degrees East Longitude, said the Iranian Seismological Center./-
